Half Moon Cay: how much does everything cost on the Island? Full breakdown (including prices)
If you’re taking a cruise in the Caribbean with Holland America or one of their sister lines, there’s a chance that you’re going to find yourself stopping at Half Moon Cay, their private island.
This island, formerly known as Little San Salvador Island, opened under the name of Half Moon Cay in December 1997, and has been delicately maintained and upgraded since.
Did you know - Half Moon Cay is a fully uninhabited island?! Even the workers arrive every day by boat - cool, right?!
If you’re due to spend a day at Half Moon Cay, you’re probably wondering how much things cost ashore. I struggled to find too much information on this before my cruise, and so I made notes of activity and excursion pricing while I was there, so that I could let you all know what it looks like from a financial point of view!
Don’t worry - although this post details the pricing of the things you can do on the island, you can also have a great time here without spending any money! Later in this post, I’ll detail the things you could do FOR FREE when you visit!
If you’d like to see more from my time with Holland America Line, then here’s episode 1 from my YouTube vlogs:
So, how much do things cost at Half Moon Cay?
Ok, let’s cover prices - here’s the list that I noted from my Holland America app. It’s important to note that these can change at any time, and they probably will. However, I don’t imagine that they would change too dramatically, so you should get a fair idea from this list!

What can I do for FREE at Half Moon Cay?
As I mentioned earlier, don’t worry when you’re seeing all of these prices - you don’t NEED to spend a dime here! On both of my visits, I spent very little money here - it’s really easy! You could look at spending the day doing some of the following things, none of which will cost you a cent!
The beach - this is free to access, and it’s probably the best thing about the whole island! Did you know: the main beach is about 2 miles long?! In other words, there’s plenty to explore, and plenty of ways to escape the crowds without paying to do so!
The Food Pavilion - this is the included food venue on the island. You can expect buffet-style food to be served here, and it’s tasty!
The shops - while buying things will cost you money, browsing and pottering around the stores won’t - adopt a slow pace and enjoy!
Walking or running - there is a walking / running route on the island - why not throw on your gym kit and get some distance in? I’m sure that cake will taste better at dinner, as it won’t be paired with guilt…!
Got children? The play area is free to use!
The sports courts are free to use!
There’s a church on the island - why not spend some time trying to find it!
I find Half Moon Cay a wonderful port call - I was worried that a cruise line private island would feel like a total tourist trap, but I didn’t find this to be the case here at all!
However you choose to spend your day on the island, I hope you have a great visit! Thanks a lot for checking out this post today - why not come and explore more of my Holland America Line content?
