Holland America Line
Few cruise lines operating today boast a history as eventful and fascinating as Holland America Line. This line dates all the way back to 1972, when Rotterdam (the company’s first ship) sailed its 15-day maiden voyage from the Netherlands to New York City. This ship was very different to the ships we know today - for her maiden voyage, she was carrying just 70 passengers: 10 Cabin Class and 60 Immigrant Class (don’t worry - they don’t still refer to stateroom grades using this terminology…!)
The company was renamed from its’ original name of ‘Nederlandsch-Amerikaansche Stoomvaart Maatschappij’ (NASM - Netherlands American Steamship Comany to become officially known as Holland-Amerika Lijn (yes, Holland America Line) in 1890.
Since this point, the company has evolved tremendously, and now boasts a fleet of 11 stunning cruise ships:
Eurodam
Koningsdam
Nieuw Amsterdam
Nieuw Statendam
Noordam
Oosterdam
Rotterdam
Volendam
Westerdam
Zaandam
Zuiderdam
